Yoho National Park Photography
Yoho National Park is one of the most underrated gems in the Canadian Rockies. While it may not receive the same attention as Banff or Lake Louise, it offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the region, with turquoise lakes, towering waterfalls, alpine hiking trails, and a quieter, more secluded atmosphere.
Whether you’re planning a wedding, elopement, proposal, engagement session, or family photos, Yoho National Park offers an incredible variety of locations and experiences.
Weddings & Elopements in Yoho National Park
Emerald Lake Lodge is one of the most beautiful wedding and elopement venues in the Canadian Rockies. Surrounded by mountains and located on the shores of Emerald Lake, it offers a peaceful setting that feels private and immersive while still being accessible for guests. The lodge is a popular choice for both intimate elopements and larger wedding celebrations.
Another wonderful option for small weddings and elopements is Cathedral Mountain Lodge. With its cozy cabin atmosphere and stunning mountain surroundings, it provides a rustic and intimate experience for couples looking to celebrate in nature. As part of the same collection as Moraine Lake Lodge, guests can also take advantage of shuttle services to Moraine Lake, making it a great option for couples hoping to incorporate both locations into their wedding experience.
Engagements, Proposals & Family Photography
Emerald Lake is one of my favourite locations in the Rockies for engagement sessions, surprise proposals, and family photography. The vibrant lake colour, mountain views, and scenic walking trails create a beautiful backdrop throughout the season.
Just a few minutes away, Natural Bridge offers another unique location for portraits. The rushing water, dramatic rock formations, and easy accessibility make it a great addition to any photography session in the area.
Adventure Sessions & Hiking Locations
For couples looking for a more adventurous experience, Yoho National Park offers some incredible hiking destinations. Wapta Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the region and makes a fantastic location for adventurous engagement sessions and elopements.
The Iceline Trail is another spectacular option for couples willing to hike for unforgettable alpine scenery. With glacier views, rugged mountain landscapes, and a true backcountry feel, it offers a unique experience unlike anywhere else in the Rockies.
One of the most sought-after locations in Yoho National Park is Lake O’Hara. Known for its pristine alpine lakes, larch forests, and world-class hiking trails, it is often considered one of the most beautiful places in the Canadian Rockies. Access is managed through a lottery system, making visits limited and highly sought after. I’ve been fortunate enough to explore Lake O’Hara several times and would love to photograph more elopements and adventure sessions there in the future.
Waterfalls & Scenic Stops
If you’re drawn to dramatic waterfalls, Takakkaw Falls is one of the highlights of Yoho National Park. As one of the tallest waterfalls in Canada, it offers an impressive backdrop for portraits and sightseeing. Due to seasonal road conditions, Takakkaw Falls is typically accessible from mid-June through Canadian Thanksgiving.
Exploring the Town of Field
The charming town of Field is the heart of Yoho National Park and a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy the area. This small mountain community offers a quiet atmosphere and easy access to many of Yoho’s most popular attractions. After a day of exploring, one of my favourite local spots is Truffle Pigs Bistro, a popular restaurant known for its welcoming atmosphere and great food.
